CCPD was established in 1979 to serve as a resource in the Cambridge community to address access, equal rights, and other issues of concern to people with disabilities.

  • provides information, referral, coordination, and technical assistance to public and private entities interested in providing access to persons with disabilities
  • responds to the concerns of Cambridge residents with disabilities
  • strives for adoption & implementation of equal status legislation, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
  • promotes a more accessible community for people with disabilities by advacing universal design and barrier removal activities
  • runs the City's temporary handicap parking permit program and coadministres (with the Council on Aging) the Cambridge Taxi Discount Program
  • provides disability awareness training to City departments and private entities on disability issues
  • the CCPD board meets on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30PM to discuss disability policies, recommend improvements, and to report on progress of existing programs
