Epilepsy (the susceptibility to recurring seizures) is a complicated neurological disorder produced by sudden brief changes in the electrical function of the brain. In epilepsy, the pattern of nerve cell (neuron) activity is disrupted. When nerve cells are not working properly, a person’s consciousness, movements or actions may be altered for a short time. These physical changes are seizures.
