Organization Narrative

Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc. is part of a network of 27 private, nonprofit, home-care corporations in Massachusetts, which are also known as Aging Service Access Points(ASAPs). The primary funding is received through the Executive Office of Elder Affairs of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (EOEA). Additional funding is received through Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging, United Way of Central Massachusetts, private contracts, federal and local governments and foundations.

Elder Services provides frail elders and younger people with disabilities with services that will enable them to live independently with dignity and comfort in their own homes, preventing or postponing the need for institutional care. Elder Services provides services to eligible elders who reside in the following Greater Worcester Area communities: Auburn, Barre, Boylston, Grafton, Hardwick, Holden, Leicester, Millbury, New Braintree, Oakham, Paxton, Rutland, Shrewsbury, West Boylston and Worcester.

Protective Service additionally serves Northborough, Westborough, Southborough, Marlboro and Hudson.

Aging Service Access Point (ASAP) assists in maintaining elders and younger people with disabilities in the home.

Programs:

Home Care Program – Services available on a sliding scale.
Available to 60 yrs or older or diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, financially eligible and meet frailty criteria established by the EOEA.

Protective Service – Report any suspected case of elder abuse and neglect which includes physical, emotional and sexual abuse, neglect and self-neglect and financial exploitation. Call Protective Service 24 Hotline at 800-922-2275.

Nutrition- Meals on Wheels & Congregate Dining Centers open to seniors 60+ years of age & spouse of participant. Suggestion Donation of $2 meal or $3 kosher meal. Transportation to dining centers is available at .50 one-way in Worcester. Call 2 days prior to the day of attendance.  For home delivered meals a person must be housebound, unable to prepare a meal or has no one available to prepare a meal. Money Management – Bill Payer Service & Representative Payee services available for 60 yrs. or older. Helps with budgeting bill paying and checking account maintenance.

Personal Care Attendant Program – state funded program for MassHealth recipients to provide training and funding to employ and manage personal care services. PCA must be medically necessary.

Family Caregiver Support Program provides support to those providing care to to a person 60 yrs or older and to a grandparent 55 yrs or older who is raising a grandchild under 18 yrs. of age.

Aging and Disability Resource Consortium of Central Mass provides free Option Counselors to explain long term care services and connect you to resources and supports and services.
