Narrative

Established in July of 2003, MILCB (The Multi-Cultural Independent Living Center of Boston, Inc.) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, community-based, consumer-controlled organization. MILCB assists people of all ages and disabilities, and their families, from unserved and underserved populations and cultures around the Boston area; we provide multilingual services to a cross-disability consumer base.

MILCB seeks to improve the quality of life of our consumers and create opportunities for people with disabilities to live at their maximum level of independent functioning within their home and community environments. We achieve this by providing essential support and through our four core services: Advocacy, Information and Referral, Peer Support, and Skills Training. All of our services are available free of charge.

The guiding principles behind MILCB— and the Independent Living philosophy as a whole— are CONTROL, CHOICES, and RIGHTS. We believe strongly that each individual has a right to control his or her own life, that every person should be able to make choices, and that all people have basic human rights.

Services include nursing home transition.
