Organization Narrative

Northeast Arc ‘s mission is dedicated to providing lifelong, individualized support to people with, or at risk of developing, disabilities and their families, ensuring opportunities to choose and to realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work, socialize and play.

Formerly known as the Association for Retarded Citizens, the Northeast ARC’s demographic area and service scope have expanded significantly over nearly half a century. Now the ARC serves indviduals with mental retardation as well as developmental- and other- disabilities, in over 100 communities across northeastern Massachusetts (including Boston and Worcester).

The ARC also serves as an informational resource to consumers, care providers, legislators, the media and others regarding issues related to the area of developmental disabilities.

The Northeast ARC is divided into three programmatic divisions: Residential, Family Supports, and Heritage Industries (Vocational Division). Within each division are unique programs that provide a broad scope of services, supports, advocacy, information and referral that are responsive to the ever-changing needs of the families and individuals the ARC serves.
