Narrative

The Children’s Center for Communication (CCC) serves students ages 3 up to 22. This program utilizes research-based educational practices to create individualized services for each student. CCC uses a systematic approach to communication for students who require AAC, spoken language, ASL, or a combination of the three. CCC provides instruction utilizing the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and a whole-person approach to learning. The students in the CCC program have a diverse range of diagnoses including developmental, physical, and/or cognitive delays, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and other physical, communication, and rare genetic disorders. Our 204-day program offers a strength-based approach with individualized teaching of communication, academics, social, and community/vocational skills, all within a communication-accessible environment, rich in visual support and sensory regulation opportunities. When students turn 14-years-old a comprehensive Transition Plan is initiated. This includes opportunities to work, participate in community activities and expand independent living skills. Our facilities include a kitchen, laundry room, and vocational room, allowing for instruction and practice of critical skills for a successful transition into adulthood. CCC strives to help students become as independent as possible, and student transition planning incorporates family support and resources in the areas of guardianship, living, and vocational/job opportunities. The CCC program values the teaching of advocacy skills, and daily living skills, in addition to skills needed to be successful after the students leave the program.
