Narrative

Elder Services of Berkshire County is both the Aging Service Access Point and Area Agency on Aging for Berkshire County.

Some notes re: services offered. Many of our services are performed by staff from other agencies through purchased services. Some programs do serve those under 60. The support groups are for family caregivers, the job placement is for those over 55, through the Senior Community Service Employment Program.

We have a Money Management program which helps seniors balance their checkbooks, live within a budget and pay bills. We have an Emergency Elder Care Fund and a Caregiver Support Fund, which provide one-time-only sums of money to those in need of a specific purchase, such as fuel oil, prescriptions, moving expenses, respite, etc. Adult Foster Care is for adults. Supportive Housing is available at Providence Court in Pittsfield. Volunteers transport seniors to medical appointments. We also offer Caregiver Support services, an Alzheimer's Resource Center, Grocery shopping, a long-term-care Ombudsman program, Nursing home screening for Medicaid, Personal Emergency Response Systems, and Health Insurance/Medicare Counseling.

Please call for details and eligibility requirements on our services, some of which are available to those under 60.
