Narrative

The Astra Foundation is a non-profit supporting families with children with special needs, particularly those with autism.  We offer under graduate and graduate courses in DIR through Lesley University, and provide training programs for parents.  DIR was developed by Stanely Greenspan and Serena Wieder.  Its underlying philosophy is that relationship between the caregiver and child is the heart of learning.  By following the child's lead, maintaining engagement, while occassionally challenging the child, ensures that the child enjoys the experience and gradually expands the complexity of the play.
