Narrative

Child Health and Human Development Disability Resources is open to all individuals with physical or visual disabilities. Through a variety of activities, from adaptive sports and recreational outings to social gatherings and educational events, we seek to enhance the self-confidence, interactive skills and physical abilities of program participants.

Adaptive Sports and Activities: A variety of adaptive sports provide barrier-free recreational and competitive opportunities for people of all skill levels and age groups, as well as their family and friends. The athletic programs run year-round and include wheelchair basketball, soccer, hockey, cycling, golf, swimming and more . Equipment is available to borrow for a nominal fee, such as: handcycles, sport wheelchairs, bi-ski, mono-skis, and bowling equipment. Social outings include movies, dinners, or concerts. A membership fee of $35 per year is requested to help offset program and equipment costs. Members receive reduced rates on activities, special events and equipment loans, as well as a subscription to the monthly newsletter.

Information, Referral, and Library Services: Child Health and Human Development Disability Resources has information on a network of agencies and services throughout the Pioneer Valley. Our staff can answer questions, provide phone numbers and addresses, and offer direction and support on issues relevant to individuals with disabilities and their families. We also have a resource library made up of books and videos on a wide variety of topics.

Community Presentations: Whether addressing school children or business professionals, our presentations are designed to address questions, concerns and ideas about physical disabilities. Adapted play, such as wheelchair soccer, can also be incorporated to increase understanding and fun!
