Narrative

Founded in 1968, Sociedad Latina is a community-based, non-profit organization providing a comprehensive, community responsive, array of programs designed to empower Latino youth and their families. Our mission is to enhance the overall well being of the Latino community by delivering programs that encourage community leadership through educational attainment, cultural identity, and continuation of traditions. Sociedad Latina fulfills its critical mission by combining direct service and advocacy with information/referral assistance providing a human service resource center for Boston's Latino youth, particularly those of Mission Hill/Roxbury. Our programming includes: * Technology Peer Institute (TPI) : Employing six youth as Technology Tutors, TPI serves all Sociedad Latina youth as well as offering English and Spanish computer literacy classes to the community. * Unique Rhythm: Employs the youth who initiated the program as its coordinator and choreographer. The dance group currently involves 24 youth that practice twice a week and perform at local events. * Viva La Cultura! Club: A cultural pride, literacy and mentorship program, we pair youth ages 14-18 with caring Latino/a adult mentors. These youth and their mentors meet as groups (separated based on gender) once a month at Sociedad Latina to participate in group activities that focus on Latino culture.
