Narrative

Service Warriors are young people with disabilities between the ages of 16-23, who live or attend school in Massachusetts. They have a passion to make change in their communities and lives.

EPIC Service Warriors is a one-year community service and leadership development program for youth and young adults with disabilities (16-23 yrs old). EPIC Service Warriors work as a team. Members learn leadership, employment, and independent living skills to meet their personal and professional goals.  Warriors meet twice a month to work on community service projects and leadership development workshops throughout the City of Worcester. 

Examples of service projects include:

  • cleaning local parks
  • making meals for those in need
  • community farming
  • painting murals
  • working with local nonprofits

Leadership Development workshop topics include

  • Disability History
  • resume building
  • mock interviews
  • political literacy
  • public speaking
  • teamwork

At the end of the program, Service Warriors emerge from the program with a new understanding of their abilities and opportunities available to them in their community.  Service Warriors complete a minimum of 110 hours of community service, become registered or pre-registered to vote, and have updated resumes by graduation. 

EPIC Service Warriors is a competitve program so young people must complete the application process to in order to be accepted.
