Narrative

The Family Initiatives Unit provides oversight and leadership of activities & programs to ensure family engagement in and a family-centered focus to all Department of Public Health, Division for Children & Youth with Special Health Needs (DCYSHN) programs. Family Initiatives provides multiple and varied opportunities for family members whose children have special health care needs to participate in the development and implementation of policies, programs, practices and evaluation. Major projects and activities of the Family Initiatives Unit include: 

  • Early Intervention Parent Leadership Project 
  • Family TIES (Together in Enhancing Support) of Massachusetts
  • development of the Chapter 171 Family Support Plan
  • Emergency Preparedness for families whose children have complex health care needs 
  • Promoting Family-Professional Partnerships
  • skill building and training opportunities for families to prepare them to participate in systems change and improvement activities
