The United Arc's North Quabbin Family Center is affiliated with the Greater Athol Area Advocates for Families with Special Needs, a grass-roots family group concerned about individuals with disabilities and their families living in the North Quabbin area.  

The program focuses on services for individuals/families founded eligible for services through the MA Department of Developmental Services. Center services include:

* Information & Referral on disability topics/concerns

*Service Navigation to obtain goods and services necessary to enhance or preserve family stability and well-being

*Educational Consultation to assist families in obtaining optimal school programs for their child

*Financial Assistance for DDS prioritized individuals to purchase case, equipment or other resources to enhance personal well-being

*Individualized Models of Support through participant directed programs: DESE-DDS for school age individuals and Agency with Choice for adults.  Individual hours of support may be provided for home or community-based support through Adult Companion or Individualized Home Support contracts with DDS.

*Workshops and Training on Disability Topics - Periodic programs are provided to family members on such topics as Individual Education Plans, Guardianship, Estate Planning, Transition, Personal Futures Planning and more.

*Social and Therapeutic Groups - Weekly social groups are offered for teens/young adults, periodic therapeutic groups include music therapy.  Family events include annual dinners and holiday parties.  Other programs are scheduled based on interest and available resources.

*GAAAFSN Scholarship - Available to high school seniors or students completing their first or second year of college.  Scholarships are available to individuals with a developmental disability, children or siblings of a person with a disability, persons who are studying for and planning a career that would support individuals with disabilities (education, community-based services, therapeutic services, health care, etc.)

Programs are offered in collaboration with The United Arc's Franklin County Family Support Center.  The staff from both centers work collaboratively in serving families.
