Narrative

Independent Living: For any individual with a significant physical, mental, cognitive or sensory impairment for whom IL services will improve their ability to function, continue functioning or move towards functioning in the family or community. SCIL provides peer counseling, skills training, advocacy, and information and referral. 

 

Southeast Center for Independent Living (SCIL) provides four core services to individuals with disabilities in the Greater New Bedford and Fall River area.  The four core services are information and referral, skills training, peer counseling, and advocacy.  SCIL offers a vast array of programs to its consumers to provide them with meaningful benefits, skill(s) development, assistance, support, and community experiences. SCIL’s current programs are: Independent Living, Transition Into Community Living, Transition to Adulthood Program (TAP), Transition Internship Program (TIP), Mass Assistive Technology Loan Program, Long Term Options Counseling, Money Follows the Person (MFP), Monthly Housing Workshops, Computer Classes, Driver’s Education Learner’s Permit Classes, Internship & Volunteer Program, Community Services, and Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone (SHINE).
