Narrative
Skill Building Services:
Provide specialized coaching to develop or build skills for independent living. Our coaches run trainings based on the needs, challenges, and hopes of the person. We help reach them towards success. We use the latest methods and technological assistance.
Home management:
Teach setting up and maintaining a safe and clean home space. Develop preparedness in responding to a variety of home-based emergencies. Design each living space according to the needs, wants and likes of the person.
Meal preparation:
Give coaching in all aspects of meal prep including:
- proper food storage
- meal planning
- use of tools
- use of stoves, burners, toasters, microwaves, etc.
Go with people during grocery shopping. Encourage positive food choices, keep to shopping list and budget.
Personal hygiene:
Focusing on cleanliness and clothes (weather and situation-appropriate). We support a person's choices and likes. Gives specialized instruction in various aspects of self-care, using visual prompting, hand over hand instruction, and physical help as needed. Go with people for various personal care appointments (haircuts, salon, etc.)
Financial/money management:
Provide training in budgeting funds, conducting bank transactions, paying bills, and using a checking account. Coaching people on properly and safely using ATM cards and safeguarding financial information. Coaching people on the safe storage of money while in the community (use of wallet, etc.). Help them understand coin values and making change. Help with long term budgeting, expense planning and saving. Go with people on shopping trips for clothing and other wanted items. Coach “comparison” shopping to stick to a budget.
Health and Wellness:
Coaching towards wellbeing through structured classes. Physical and occupational therapy, and informal activities such as walking, workouts at the gym, or joining physical activity and exercise programs help. Give coaching on healthy eating and diet, in the person's home. We look at such concerns as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and other health problems.
