Narrative

The IRCP treats patients experiencing post polio syndrome (the late effects of polio), works to educate physicians and the public about post polio syndrome and conducts research on post polio syndrome and the latest assistive technology and treatments for PPS.

If you are a polio survivor who has medical issues that have to do either with your initial polio or new symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, pain, falls, etc. then we can likely help you. We can also help if you have questions about aging, preserving your health, undergoing surgery or other issues that my be influenced by your initial polio or Post-Polio Syndrome. Many people come to see us because they simply want more information about preventing further disability as they age. Our multi-disciplinary polio team will evaluate you. Everyone who comes to the IRCP has the opportunity to be evaluated by the following clinicians (depending on his/her specific needs): Physiatrists (medical doctors), Physical therapists, Occupational therapists, Speech and language pathologists, Wheelchair/Scooter vendor, Registered Dietician, and Mental health professionals. Treatment at the IRCP is customized to meet the individual needs of each polio survivor. The IRCP is set up to accommodate the needs of all polio survivors who are able to travel to our facility. We offer intensive appointments scheduled over several days in a row for people coming from out of town. For survivors who live locally or regionally, we encourage appointments be scheduled once a week or every other week over a period of time (depending on need).
