Narrative

The Zohar (brightness: things are not always as they seem) camping program is designed to meet the social and religious needs of developmentally challenged Jewish adolescents. Zohar fully integrates these youth into camp life; they participate in all camp-wide programs and daily events with the support and supervision of specially trained staff. Zohar campers are children with developmental disabilities, high functioning spectrum disorders, and neurological and learning challenges. The Zohar camper-to-bunk staff ratio is 2 to 1.

The JCC Camp Kingswood Zohar (brightness or splendor) Special Needs Inclusion program is a fully integrated camp experience for adolescents under the supervision of specially trained staff. Open to boys and girls ages 10 to 17 with developmental disabilities, high functioning spectrum disorders, and neurological and learning challenges. Counselor to camper ratio is 1:2. A family interview is required.

The JCC Camp Kingswood Zohar Special Needs Vocational program provides Zohar campers ages 17-21 the opportunity to build independent living and work skills in the safe confines of the Kingswood community. Campers have job shadowing opportunites with supportive coaching along with the continuation of group social dynamics. The goal is to have participants succeed in their areas of interest and develop transferrable skills.

JCC Camp Kingswood is located in Bridgton, Maine roughly 2-1/2 hours from Boston and 4-1/2 hours from Montreal.
