Narrative

La Alianza Hispana, Inc. was founded in 1970. La Alianza is a community based, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Latino self-determination, advocating for equal access to basic services, and combating the effects of poverty, discrimination, and the stress of migration. We provide linguistically and culturally appropriate services that range from education, elder services, public health, family mental health services, workforce development, and youth and family services. For over 40 years, our organization has served as an advocate for equal access to basic human services, and has been at the forefront of establishing community and economic development initiatives in Roxbury and Dorchester. These initiatives include the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (a nationally recognized community mobilization initiative), Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation (community and economic development), Casa Esperanza (drug treatment) and Casa Primavera (psycho-social transitional rehabilitation). La Alianza Hispana serves as a portal of hope to over 12,000 Latinos annually.

Over 1,500 people are served through direct services in addition to the thousands that participate in yearly events such as the Celebrate Life Health Festival, Women of Courage and other signature events. Approximately 30% are elderly, 30% are children and youth under the age of 18 and 40% are adults in the workforce.  

With a $2.5 million operational budget, La Alianza Hispana has developed a unique approach to poverty intervention and change, and implements a demonstrably effective model of intervention. Our approach identifies and remediates threats to families and children across a range of established critical points of vulnerability. To best serve families in crisis, we provide strengths-based family centric wraparound family preservation and development that is coordinated across all of our programs and facilities in our Education and Workforce Development, and Mental and Public Health departments.  Referrals accepted.
