Narrative
When a child or young person with autism is experiencing a behavioral crisis, our first priorities are his or her safety and well-being. Through Advocates Mobile Crisis Intervention services, specialized for people 21 and under with autism. Our team of clinicians and family partners gives immediate response and support wherever the child is located, whether it’s at home, school, or another setting in the community.
Mobile Crisis Intervention is available when someone poses a safety risk, either to themselves or others, due to wanting to kill themselves, homicidal behaviors, self-injury, an inability to sustain healthy relationships, or other difficult behaviors.
Experienced clinicians work directly with the child or youth experiencing a crisis. They work with their families and caregivers, to stabilize the situation and reduce the immediate risk of danger. Our family partners belong to Autism Alliance of MetroWest. They have loved ones with autism, lend guidance, support, and the expertise that comes from sharing similar life experiences.
The response team works with the entire family for up to one week to transition out of crisis. They coordinate additional resources and supports. They follow up through phone calls and visits. This unique pairing of a behavioral health professional and family partner provides as much immediate physical, emotional, and communal support as possible in a challenging and stressful time.
