Narrative

NESCA’s real-life skills and executive function coaching focuses on developing essential adaptive and practical independent living skills in real-world settings. Real-life skills coaching is provided by NESCA OTs as well as NESCA Transition Specialists (who have backgrounds in vocational and college counseling).

Specific,goals are set for continued learning, vocation and community life. Our OTs help people build skills to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). ADLs are everyday, basic tasks that allow a person to both function and thrive. Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) are more complex tasks that allow a person to live and grow independently. Additionally, our coaches focus on helping people manage the executive function tasks of life. We build up functional systems to support organization and initiation, and collaboratively setting goals. Our coaches support people in making and committing to positive routines and habits. Our transition specialists help build skills to address transitions to employment or post-secondary learning environments.
