Narrative
Provides individualized orientation and mobility training programs within the home, neighborhood, workplace, and community at large. Certified O&M Staff provide instruction beginning with the assessment of individual needs and motivation based on visual and physical limitations. Instruction is provided in using a long cane and travel and pedestrian skills with or without vision. Orientation & Mobility training does include training on using public transit, such as subway, bus, train, etc. Referrals are accepted from consumers, families, social workers and/or vocational counselors. Participants must be legally blind/registered with MCB. Average wait: 2-4 weeks. Provides in-service training on blindness and low vision and consultation services on environmental and pedestrian access for people with vision loss to individuals, cities/towns or private agencies. Will also provide O&M consultation to school age legally blind population to advocate for O&M Rehab services provided by SPED Services.
