Narrative

Short Courses offer public school students who are blind or visually impaired the opportunity to focus on Expanded Core Curriculum areas that can be difficult to address within a school day, such as personal care, health and wellness, independent living and social skills. From resume writing seminars to practical cooking skills, our programs span far beyond traditional academic curriculum.

Perkins School for the Blind is committed to providing education and services that build productive, meaningful lives for children and adults around the world who are blind, deaf-blind or visually impaired, including those with additional disabilities.

Program Description

A blind of vocational and independent living experiences to prepare participants for college or employment Designed for young adults age 18 to 22 who are blind or visually impaired who have completed their academic requirements but need transition-related skills training Offers resume-building experience in the workplace, home management skills, social skills and opportunities to plan leisure time Individualized Education Program focused on Expanded Core Curriculum is developed for each participant depending on individual needs, strengths and overall goals Runs on a school year schedule with minimum enrollment of four months Staff works with participants to ensure every individual leaves with a plan for success
