School Profile

Pathways Academy at McLean Hospital is a year-round therapeutic day school (Chapter 766 approved) specializing in educating children, teens and young adults, ages 6-22. In addition to individualized academics, the student centered approach, focuses on social pragmatics training and sensory integration for students presenting with social pragmatic difficulties, sensory processing disorders, and unique learning styles. Pathways Academy depends on a collaborative working relationship with the students’ families, school districts, and community service providers for a successful placement. Under the auspices of the Center for Neurodevelopmental Services, Pathways Academy is fully approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Student Profile

Pathways Academy serves students, ages 6 through 22, who’s previous academic success may been hindered due to student’s struggles with socialization and peer relations, anxiety, unique learning style, and/or sensory issues. Accordingly, students may have previously received diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, or Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder. Many of our applicants may have a secondary or co-occurring psychiatric disorder such as ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, anxiety disorders, learning disorders, sensory processing issues, and/or adverse childhood experiences. Pathways Academy Admissions considers prospective students on an individual basis. Pathways Academy does not serve the following populations:

 •Students who present with symptoms of emotional and behavioral disturbances
 •Primary diagnosis of Behaviorally Disordered
 •Students who require an ABA program
