Narrative

The Pediatric Palliative Care Program was created to enhance the quality of life for children with life-limiting illness and their families by providing supportive services. To qualify for the program, the child must be 18 years old or younger, a resident of Massachusetts, and a physician must certify that the child has been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition.

Many families need help locating available palliative care resources in our community. At Baystate Children’s Hospital, we offer a Pediatric Palliative Care Program through Baystate Home Health to support your family and enhance your child’s quality of life. Our pediatric palliative care services include:

  • Case management
  • Counseling
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Respite care (a temporary break from caring for your child)
  • Social services
  • Volunteer support

The Baystate Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice provides care at no cost to eligible families. Unlike hospice care, palliative care has no requirement for a six-month prognosis. Your child can receive ongoing treatment for as long as necessary.
