Narrative

The mission of Therapeutic Recreation at the Springfield Recreation Department is to provide opportunities for social interaction, skill development, and fun through programs for youth and adults who have a disability as well as promote awareness and integration.

The STAR Angelina Therapeutic Recreation Club is designed for people with disabilities to come together to enjoy common interests, have fun and meet new people through planned and structured activities. Our goal is to promote independence, increase physical activity, and improve one’s socialization skills.

Fun 'N Fitness: Fun 'N Fitness is a recreational group for adult's disabilities. The group is sent a seasonal calendar with various activities to choose from. The calendars usually include vacations, short community outings, and teams to join. Fun 'N Fitness offers a bowling league, monthly dinner dances and dinner movies, themed craft nights, theater trips, hikes, comedy clubs, spectator games (for example Boston Celtics, UMass Basketball), and cruises or weekend vacations.
