Virtual classes are available.

Take Care First Aid offers first aid and CPR classes for individuals with disabilities.  I am a certified American Heart Association (AHA) instructor and have created visual and hands-on materials to teach the AHA first aid and CPR curriculum to meet the needs of students with intellectual disabilities. The first aid class focus on the cause of an injury, treatment, and injury prevention. Care of burns, broken bones, cuts, allergic reactions and other topics are taught and practiced. Recognizing an emergency and how to get help is a major focus of the program.  All participants take home a small first aid kit.

The course objectives include:

• Differentiate between emergency and non-emergency situations
• Demonstrate first aid skills for common injuries or medical situations
• Understand how to seek help when needed
• Use common safety skills to prevent injuries

My goal is to help participants to feel confident to respond if they or someone else is injured or has an emergency at home, work or in the community. They could save a life!

The classes are 2 hours and are generally held at your school, agency or program location.  Class fees are based on the location of the class and the size of the group. 

If you need CPR and/or first aid certification for employment, I am happy to work with you to pass the requirements for certification from the American Heart Association.  The fee for certification depends on training time needed and includes a handbook and AHA certification card (valid for 2 years).

In addition to first aid and CPR, I also teach a class called Be Aware.  The Be Aware class uses video, discussion and hands-on activities to learn how laws help us to be safe, to practice how to report a crime, and to learn how to interact with the police under different circumstances.  This program may include a visit from the local police department, if available.
