Narrative

The Learning Program Boston (LPB) is an educational program for children with a primary diagnosis of Down syndrome.  An affiliate-partner of the Learning ProgramTM, a nationally-recognized model for parent-focused intervention developed by the Down Syndrome Foundation, this program is  grounded on evidenced-based approaches to teaching children with Down syndrome established by world-recognized leaders in cognitive research for children with Down syndrome.

Support for Students

  • We offer academic classes for students, complemented by concurrent instructional workshops for parents and professional partners
  • Our sessions meet once a month over the course of the academic year.  Students attend a high-energy, developmentally-appropriate class led by special educators and therapists
  • Parents and professional partners attend a workshop featuring different topics that build upon each other.  These include “Introduction to Literacy”, “Introduction to Math” and “How to Build an Effective Learning Session”
  • Families are provided the information, tools and materials to work with their child
  • LPB offers a community of support: a regular avenue to discuss Down syndrome educational issues
  • We also offer 1-on-1 or small group tutoring focused on the development of reading or math skills based on the program’s guiding principles
