Narrative
The Purple Camp Summer Sleepaway For Children With Epilepsy
Epilepsy Foundation New England (serving Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island)
Description: Camp Frank A. Day in East Brookfield, Massachusetts, is our host for a 6-day/5-night camp for children and teens with epilepsy in Massachusetts. Our Maine camp is located at the Oceanwood Camp and Conference Center in Oceanpark, Maine. Concurrent sibling programs are available. Activities may include: archery, swimming, sports, theater, arts & crafts, music, climbing tower, kayaks and paddle boards, campfire circle, and games. Campers are expected to be able to perform all ADLs (activities of daily living) independently. This includes tasks like eating, bathing, dressing, and basic self care.
All camper applications are submitted to a medical committee to review a camper’s fit for the health, safety, and programming goals and parameters for each camp. Camp is staffed 24 hours a day by a nurse, camp counselors, and EFNE staff who have training in seizure recognition and seizure first-aid as well as in working with children with epilepsy who have diverse needs. Neurologists volunteer their time during the day and are on call at night.
