Narrative
How Palliative Care Helps
The palliative care team helps people and their loved ones live as fully as possible during a serious, chronic, or otherwise life-limiting illness. Care is geared to the person and begins with physical comfort so that other needs — emotional, social, practical, and spiritual — may be fully met. The Palliative Care team remains sensitive to personal, cultural, and religious values, beliefs, and practices.
Hospice care may be appropriate when:
- Your symptoms are becoming harder to manage
- You are spending more time in the hospital, with less time between hospitalizations
- Your main goal is comfort and relief from pain or other symptoms
- You are thinking about ending curative treatments
- You are diagnosed with a condition such as heart failure, COPD, end-stage renal disease, dementia, cancer, or stroke and your illness is at a life-limiting stage.
